Classes & Clubs

I can offer a range of classes and clubs for children from Pre School through Early Years and Primary school.

These activities encourage children to explore stories and use their imaginations, helping them to build skills in many different areas and grow in confidence. Music provides opportunities for creativity, joy and learning, which are key to children’s wellbeing.

“Your workshop was brilliant - fun, engaging, so well-paced and creative! You helped the children learn so much in such a fun way.”

“What you are doing is so valuable, not just in terms of helping children develop their musical skills but also providing an opportunity for families to learn and have fun together.”

Pre School, Early Years and Key Stage 1

Musical Discoverers

(45 minute session)

Pre School children can discover the joy and magic of music in a nurturing, safe environment. They explore vocal sounds by listening and copying and gradually build up a repertoire of songs. Each session has a familiar structure they will learn to enjoy with a welcome and farewell song, core songs, rhymes, a story and a chance to be involved with plenty of actions and movement.

Be sure to remember to bring your special teddy so you can rock them to sleep as we sing the lullaby at the end of the session! Favourite moments for the children include particular toys or puppets that make an appearance in their song and a chance to wave the brightly coloured scarves freely to the music.

Musical Adventurers

(Regular 60 minute session)

Early Years and KS1 children enjoy exploring the different aspects of music through songs, movement, circle games, story-telling and listening. While experimenting with the different voices for The Three Bears, they are busy learning about pitch. As they experiment with different body percussion to match The Three Little Pigs they are absorbing the idea of timbre. Going on a Bear Hunt involves dynamics, while The Hare and the Tortoise builds in the concept of duration. Children will enjoy circle games and movement, and the addition of fun props and puppets brings the activities to life. Time to respond in their own personal way is important too and sessions include an opportunity to listen to music and draw, write and explore making their own graphic scores as they absorb the mood or character of the particular piece of music in their own way.

Tara’s Heavy House Workshop

(Half-day workshop)

Davina is able to come into your school and lead this workshop for children in Reception, Y1 or Y2.

Using her own original material, she will bring a new modern spin to the well-loved tale of The Hare and The Tortoise. The children will bring the story to wonderful life in a combination of songs, body percussion, narration and actions.

“Davina Shore is an exceptionally gifted musical communicator and educator. By winning the hearts and minds of children, she engages with their musicality and brings out the best of their musical ability and talent. My children adored being taught music by her and thoroughly enjoyed music performances under her direction. I still recall the lively rhythms and melodies of a Christingle production from 5 years ago.”

The Singing Sheltie Workshop

(Half-day workshop)

Invite Davina into your school to work with children in Y3/4. They will enjoy working together to learn her new lively performance poem, making a rhythmic jigsaw, using ostinato, body percussion and dramatic dynamics to bring the character of the singing sheltie alive in a fun action-packed style.

Making Music Together (Recorder)

(30–60 minutes dependent on age)

Making music together is exciting, helps teamwork and is a good place to learn and not feel quite so exposed when you make a mistake! A recorder ensemble can be a fantastic way of learning about reading music and playing in a group. Why not join the beginners’ group on the descant and if you really enjoy it then the treble may be for you further down the line!

Encouraging Singing

(Regular sessions for smaller or larger groups 30–60 minutes dependent on age)

Perhaps you would like to have a choir in your school but you don’t have someone who is willing and able to take this on. The impact of music on the development of confidence, emotional wellbeing and self-expression is well documented but sometimes it is an area that is squeezed out of an already busy curriculum. Davina could come and lead a year group choir in lesson time and give staff some well-deserved non-contact time or as an extracurricular club. She has a large repertoire of tried and tested material as well as a collection of new songs from her forthcoming book.
